Some common questions
Family Sessions
How do I book a session?
The best way to book a session is through direct message on IG/FB. You will hear back from me within 48 hours. If you don’t, send me an email, as every once in awhile there can be a glitch, especially with Comcast email addresses. Mini sessions and Personality Portraits are booked completely through my Pixieset booking site.
What is the best way to get in touch?
Direct message on IG/FB and emails are the absolute best way to get in touch.
Do you ever have any promotions or sales?
Yes! My Christmas in July promotion in July offers my priority list a discount on a fall or holiday mini session for one week. For clients looking for a full session experience, I offer a pre-Black Friday promotion in November where 10 families can book their session for the following year at a reduced rate. They go quick!
What if it rains?
Unfortunately, we can’t book a rain date because then I would have to save 2 dates for every family and that is just not manageable. Instead, I track the weather leading up to your session and if it is more than a 40% chance of rain, 24 hours before your session, I will reach out to reschedule.
When do I do my dress consult?
Once your retainer is paid and your contract is signed, I will send you a questionnaire to start thinking through the details of your session. As a part of that, you can indicate if you want a dress consultation and I will send you my calendar to book with my stylist.
Can I add hair and makeup to my session?
Of course! Currently, my hair and make-up artist’s services are a la carte, inquire for current pricing.
How far in advance do you book family sessions?
Believe it or not, I book family sessions a year in advance. Most of my returning families lock in their retainer in November during my pre-Black Friday promotion. When we are 3 months ahead of their desired session date, I reach out to them to lock in a date. I suggest reaching out as soon as you know you want to book a session since I have limited availability, especially on weekends.
How long is a family session?
A typical family session is about an hour. That is typically more than enough time to get what we need. That being said, there is always flexibility if we need a snack break or to run to the bathroom.
What if my partner hates doing pictures?
I promise you, give me a chance to change their minds. I consider converting grumpy husbands into willing participants as my superpower. Check out my Google reviews to hear from real moms!
Maternity Sessions
When should I book my maternity session?
I recommend booking between 30-34 weeks since that is when you will look the most pregnant, but still be fairly comfortable. Obviously, this can be flexible depending on your situation.
Does my partner have to participate in the session?
Not at all, that is totally a personal preference!
Is a dress consultation included in this session?
It is! Schedule a time to come to the studio to meet with the Lotus Studio DC stylist to try on dresses and create a vision for your session. Your dresses will be brought to your session, steamed and ready to go!
Can my children be included?
Absolutely!
Is an indoor option available?
Absolutely, we can always hold maternity sessions in my studio in Springfield, VA or we can book a studio for rent that is closer to your home.
Mini Sessions
How long is a mini session?
My family/maternity/motherhood mini sessions are quick, 15-minute sessions that are back-to-back with other clients’ mini sessions. In and out, so you can get back to your busy life.
*My Personality Portraits minis are 5 to 10 minutes of shooting per child (trust me when I say this is more than enough time!)
How many images will I receive?
You will receive 12 hand-edited, digital images within two weeks of your session via an online gallery. You’ll have full rights to your images to print and share through whichever service you prefer. If you would like to upgrade your gallery, you can do so upon receiving your images for an additional fee.
*With my personality portraits mini sessions: You will receive all deliverable images in an online gallery!
Can I book a mini session whenever I want?
Unfortunately, no. The only way a mini session date can be customized is if you host a mini session party with 2 other families (retainers required).
How is a mini session different than a standard session?
Mini sessions are 15-minute sessions on a designated date at a specific location. You will receive 12 images with this session, with the option to purchase more. A standard session is a much more customized session, where you can choose your location, date, have access to the studio stylist. We will also have at least an hour to work together. Because of the extra time, you will receive much more variety in terms of background and posing. You will also receive all of your edited images.
How do I book a mini session?
Just a few steps secure your date and time:
- Secure your spot by signing your contract and paying your 50% retainer
- Review the prep guide and prep emails leading up to your mini session date and reach out with any questions
- Pay your balance the day before your session
- Rock your mini session with your family and receive your images within two weeks to choose your favorites
